Master French
Step by Step:
A Structured, Immersive French Learning Programme from A1 to C1
Learning French on your own can feel overwhelming. With thousands of resources scattered across the internet, it’s hard to know where to start, what to focus on, and how to progress logically from beginner to advanced levels. The EF Complete French Course solves that problem with a comprehensive, structured, and progressive curriculum designed to take you from zero to C1 level, all in one place.
Whether you're an absolute beginner or an upper-intermediate learner looking for a roadmap to fluency, this course provides everything you need: clear guidance, engaging content, interactive practice, and cultural immersion—all organised over five levels from A1 to C1, based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
A Complete Online French Course
for Self-Learners
The EF Complete French Course is ideal for motivated learners who want to study French independently but still benefit from a well-organised curriculum and expert support. Each level of the course (A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1) is carefully designed to:
• Teach and reinforce the key grammar, vocabulary,
and structures of each CEFR level
• Build all four language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking
• Expose learners to a wide range of authentic content
• Provide interactive exercises to practise and test understanding
• Immerse students in French culture, history, and society
• Use spaced repetition to reinforce vocabulary
and encourage long-term retention
From your first French words to debating social issues at an advanced level, you’ll move step by step, module by module, toward real fluency.
A Level-by-Level Roadmap
from A1 to C1
The full course is divided into five levels, with each level corresponding to a specific CEFR band:
A1 – Beginner (15 weeks)
A2 – Elementary (15 weeks)
B1 – Intermediate (18 weeks)
B2 – Upper-Intermediate (18 weeks)
C1 – Advanced (24 weeks)
Each level is broken into weekly study plans, and every week is structured into 6 learning days, each with a distinct focus. This system provides consistency while giving learners the freedom to go at their own pace or explore content à la carte.
Weekly Structure:
Learn, Practise, and Progress
Each week of the EF Complete French Course is organised as follows:
Day 1 + Day 4
Vocabulary Modules
from the Word Builder
Build your vocabulary with over 150 bilingual word lists spanning more than 4,500 French words. These modules include:
• French-English word lists with colour-coded gender
(blue = masculine, red = feminine)
• Audio recordings to improve pronunciation
• Four interactive games and exercises
to practise spelling, memory, and usage
• Spaced repetition: every vocabulary list is repeated at least twice
over the course to support long-term retention
Vocabulary themes vary by level, from family and food to work, politics, environment, abstract concepts, and more.
Day 2
Listening & Reading with
“Learn French with Anthony” Podcast
Develop your listening skills and comprehension using graded podcast episodes aligned with your level. For each episode, you get:
• High-quality audio in slow, clear, natural French
• A bilingual transcript, with sentence-by-sentence explanations in English
• Four exercises focused on comprehension, vocabulary, and structure
• Exposure to real grammar in context and natural spoken rhythm
With 5 levels of episodes available, you’ll always be challenged at just the right pace.
Day 3
Grammar and Conjugation
in Context
Deepen your understanding of French grammar and verb conjugation based on the structures introduced in the podcast. Each grammar session includes:
• Clear explanations with bilingual example sentences
• Charts and visuals to simplify complex concepts
• Interactive games and exercises for hands-on practice
• Topics ranging from basic verb forms to the subjunctive, conditionals, passive voice, and gerund
Grammar is no longer abstract—it’s learned and practised directly in context.
Day 5
Communication Modules
from the Skills Trainer
Each week includes a communication-focused module to develop all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing). The content is adapted to your level:
A1–A2: Situational dialogues and stories (shop, café, restaurant, pharmacy, bookshop, etc.)
B1–B2: Communication through icons of French-speaking culture—artists, writers, musicians, designers, famous brands, historical figures
C1: Modules based on Toulon and other French cities, to discuss social issues, culture, politics, and more, through real-life contexts
All modules include audio, transcripts, role plays, translations, vocabulary lists, and interactive activities.
Day 6
Cultural & Thematic Immersion
Each Saturday (or sixth day of study), you’ll engage with additional content to broaden your exposure to French and deepen your cultural understanding.
A1: Learn about the history of the French language, start phonetics, and read the A1 graded reader Une Nouvelle Vie en France
A2: Study French phonetics in more depth and read the A2 graded reader La Vie en France
B1–C1: Use the "Explore France with Anthony" podcast to explore six major cultural and societal themes:
• Art and literature
• French cuisine
• Society and daily life
• French history
• Contemporary culture
• Travel and geography
Each podcast episode includes multilingual transcripts (French + English, German, Spanish, Italian and Chinese), vocabulary activities, and video quizzes.
